Voor de tentoonstelling ‘Robert Doisneau. Instants Donnés’ in het Musée Maillol werkten Annette en Francine Doisneau, die vanuit het voormalige atelier van hun vader in Montrouge diens werk beheren, en tentoonstellingsmaker Tempora samen. Ze laten het werk zien van een fotograaf die – aldus Francine – het leven observeerde met het geduld van een hengelaar – altijd wachtend op dat ene magische moment. Bezoekers ontdekken Doisneaus veelzijdigheid: van speelse kinderfoto’s en intieme kunstenaarsportretten tot het harde leven in de Parijse buitenwijken en zijn verrassende werk voor modemagazine Vogue.

The daughters of the famous French photographer Robert Doisneau are presenting a major retrospective in Paris. Annette and Francine selected 350 photographs from an astonishing archive of 450,000 negatives for this exhibition.
For Robert Doisneau. Instants Donnés at the Musée Maillol, Annette and Francine Doisneau—who manage their father’s work from his former studio in Montrouge—collaborated with exhibition producer Tempora. The show reveals the work of a photographer who, as Francine explains, “observed life with the patience of a fisherman—always waiting for that one magical moment.” Visitors will discover Doisneau’s remarkable versatility: from playful images of children and intimate portraits of artists to the harsh realities of Parisian suburbs and his surprising fashion work for Vogue.
