In de openingsscène van de Franse film Le pot-au-feu ontvouwt zich een magisch schouwspel in een kasteelkeuken uit 1885. Kasteelheer en fijnproever Dodin Bouffant en zijn kokkin en heimelijke geliefde Eugénie bewegen behendig tussen dampende potten en smeulende vuren. Betoverend, vindt de Amsterdamse cateraar Madame Charlotte, die de film al twee keer heeft gezien.

Madame Charlotte: ‘In Nederland draagt deze geweldige film van de Frans-Vietnamese regisseur Trần Anh Hùng niet de titel La passion de Dodin Bouffant, maar eenvoudigweg Le pot-au-feu, als verwijzing naar de beroemde Franse stoofschotel met groenten en vlees. Mijn liefde voor koken, eten, ingrediënten, Franse landhuizen en bovenal de liefde zelf wordt met deze film meer dan gevoed.
De openingsscène, waarin een feestmaal wordt bereid, is voor mij betoverender dan een goed ballet. De samenwerking tussen de beide koks en de assistente is formidabel. Eén duidelijke chef, en wat voor één – ik zou ook verliefd op haar worden. Wat een vrouw!
En het smachten van hem naar haar. Ook heel fraai: ze vinden iemand die de taal van hun smaakpapillen spreekt, een culinair liefdeskind.
Tot slot: het grote verleidingsdiner. Als iemand dat ooit voor mij kookt, trouw ik direct met diegene. Beloofd!
Wat een heerlijkheid. Zie deze film vooral samen met iemand die ook van lekker eten en drinken houdt en ga daarna aan de oesters en de champagne. Loop niet, rén nu naar de bioscoop!

Film ‘Le pot-au-feu’: a culinary dance of lovers
In the opening scene of the French film Le pot-au-feu, a magical spectacle unfolds in a nineteenth-century castle kitchen. The castle lord and gourmet Dodin Bouffant, and his cook and secret lover Eugénie, move skillfully between steaming pots and smoldering fires. My love for cooking, eating, ingredients, French country houses, and above all, love itself, is more than nourished by this film.
The opening scene, in which a feast is prepared, is more enchanting to me than a good ballet. The collaboration between the two cooks and the assistant is formidable. One clear chef, and what a chef – I would also fall in love with her. What a woman!
And his longing for her. Also very beautiful: they find someone who speaks the language of their taste buds, a culinary lovechild.
